VbScript Programmer's Reference
by Numerous Authors

Much more than meets the eye!

Purchase

Don't be fooled by this book's title.  Although it is indeed a handy reference on VbScript, it is much, much more!  This is not a book that you buy once and forget on your shelf.  Instead, you'll find yourself drawn in immediately by some very well done tutorials.  Then you'll be coming back again and again for the example code, which is unbelievably consistent for a multi-author book.

This multi-purpose guide is highly recommended!

Beginning ASP Databases
by John Kaufman

This light-hearted book is all a first time database programmer needs!

Purchase

If you're going to create a web application of any sophistication, you are probably going to need to store and retrieve information.  You can do this in database files, or on the registry, but for heavy duty scalability, a relational database management system (RDBMS) is the best solution.  This book does a superb job of teaching you how to do this.

Kaufman actually starts off explaining how to get ASP and Active Data Objects (ADO) going on various types of windows machines.  Then the meat of the book begins as the author takes the reader on a thorough tour of the ADO object model.  By the book's end, the user is familiar with advanced topics such as SQL syntax, stored procedures and setting up the SQL debugger.

Professional Active Server Pages 3.0
by numerous authors

The definitive guide and reference for the serious ASP developer.

Purchase

The first time I saw this book, a coworker was lugging it around the office.  It is BIG...1227 pages...but unlike so many books out there that are just filler, every page is a densely packed mesh of fantastic information.  Not only does it cover ASP, but it covers ASP components, ADSI/Active Directory, Microsoft Message Queue (MSMQ), Collaboration Data Objects (CDO), performance testing, load balancing and much, much more.  If you are writing enterprise-wide n-tier apps in ASP, then this book is for you!

When I have a complicated problem, I no longer go pouring through the ASP help, trying to piece together the solution from multiple help topics.  Instead, I rely almost exclusively on the authors of this fantastic book!  This is a must-read!
