the code is pretty nice. you should use 
paint to call update. ex
 public void 
paint(Graphics g)
 { 
update(g);
 }
 public void 
update(Graphics g)
 {
     //all your 
paint stuff
 }
also you should use 
BufferedImage and bufferdImgSurface to 
help get rid of the jumpyness of the 
rain. just an idea. email me if you 
have a question. make sure to put in 
the subject FROM PLANET SOURCE CODE.
