Wow, it did run from the zipped
source
This being my first network app
of any kind.
I was able to establish
cnxn to a telnet servr,
but then could
not send any char's in response to the
login prompt, thus was not able to
continue a useful
session. (I tried
telnet to chessclub.com:5005 via
internet
and the standard login --for
guests-- is to respond with
char 'g'
for guest and then -Enter- as second
response. Does this
app need more
procedures added actually to be used
for telnet?
thanks, /ts

To fix the problem with logins add the
following code to the
form_keypress.
if keyascii = 13 then
winsock1.senddata vbcrlf
this will fix
what is missing. email me if you have
any problems.

I am fairly new to VB. I cannot find
the download file
at
http:\\www.geocities.com\SiliconVall
ey\Hub\3944\. Also,
where do I find a
MSWINSCK.OCX (ie., the Winsock
control
listed in section 3 of your
setup outline)?
Any help would
greatly be appreciated.

This code is very nicely done and
incredibly well written compared to
most of the other code I have seen
around the place.

I tried the program. All I see is #,$
and no matter what characters I send I
get no further data from the server. I
am logging on to a unix server. I tried
adding the vbcrlf suggestion to the
keypress routine.

Hey guys!
I know some of you have
been having problems
with my program,
but all aims to do is
to show you the
basic building blocks of
a simple
client. When I wrote the program,
I
did so aiming for communication with
an
Vax computer. For accessing of
different
computers like Unix, etc -
then the code
will need to be
modified. I'm sorry I can't
help more
than that. Take this program
as an
intro not a full solution.
If you
want a really excellent VB
telnet
program download it
from:
http://www.geocities.com/Silico
nValley/Peaks/1797/telnet.zip
The
author of this program has much
more
knowledge than me and the code is
far
superior than mine. So check it
out and
browse their web
site.
Cheers
Marcus

Alot of you are having a problem
connecting to unix telnet servers. the
main problem is that this telnet app
does not follow the rcf. I made an
active x control to help in creating a
telnet client. Check it out on this
site. With my code you still need to
add some stuff for the terminal
emulation you want to do but dont have
to worry about the telnet commands as
much. Its pretty simple to use. The
console is not even close to complete.
But maybe someone who knows more about
consoles like vt100 could write a good
control and then just paste it to the
telnet control.
